* EA-21 is a leadership coalition comprised of Americans of differing faiths and political outlooks who agree that it’s time to end America’s unhealthy dependence on imported oil. Their support for the principles of EA-21 should not be construed as endorsement of the specific legislative aims of EA-21 or the content of statements made and views expressed on this web site.

Those who fought for America’s freedom more than 200 years ago (or who fought against
the Barbary Pirates’ domination of the seas a quarter century later) could scarcely
imagine that our national economy, our foreign policy and our daily lives would be
captive, as it is today, to unreliable foreign sources and to despots who control
the world’s supply of a vital commodity – oil – and who then use the tribute we pay
for oil to fund terrorism, and to buy weapons to use against the U.S. and our allies.
It’s not just how much we pay for a gallon of gas… It’s what they do with that money!
It’s time for a new revolution to win back our freedom from these modern-day pirates.
But winning back our freedom will require more than good ideas – It will require
a set of options we all can agree on, rather than fight about, and a specific legislative
strategy to put them in place.
America’s Energy Freedom Plan has all of that. Just Click below to see.
Some energy plans have proposed radically transforming how America produces electricity, favoring wind power, or a mix of non-polluting alternatives including solar, wind, nuclear and geothermal. But even today, almost none of the electricity produced in America is produced from oil. So, while those energy plans might do something to reduce global warming, they can do almost nothing to reduce oil use even if every watt were produced using “Green Power.”
Other proposals recognize that transportation uses 70% of all the oil, and so, wisely focus on transportation. But almost all suggest that we radically alter the technology built into cars -- ignoring the many studies that show that it will take decades before that can happen. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hydrogen fuel cells or cars running on compressed natural gas (CNG) will represent a mere fraction of private vehicle use in America’s mature automotive market for years to come. So, while these marvelous new automotive technologies deserve support for the future and are a long-term strategy in our plan, they cannot rapidly get us off of oil.

The battle to win America’s energy freedom isn’t going to be won waiting for our elected leaders to act. We the People need to make ourselves heard in a clear voice, demanding that our leaders stop the finger-pointing and get down to business,
